Trike Frequently Asked QuestionsCOSMOS AND BUTTERFLY TRIKESOne of the most versatile aircraft in the world, the Trike can be flown from a variety of locations and requires no pilot's license. Questions and AnswersWhat is a trike? Trike is the term commonly used to describe a motorized hang glider which is attached to a 3 wheeled under carriage... hence the name 3Trike2! Do I need a pilot's license to fly one? No. Trikes are classified as ultralight aircraft under Part 103 of the FAA regulations and no pilots license is needed to legally fly one. Proper training is essential, however. Training may be accomplished at a number of locations and students are typically ready to solo within 5-10 days. Why is the Trike so easy to fly? Because it is a 2-axis, weight shift type aircraft, a Trike is very responsive with nearly automatic turn and bank coordination. Take offs and landings occur at much slower speeds than with conventional aircraft. How fast does it fly? Trikes can fly as slowly as 23 mph and as fast as 90 mph depending on the type of wing used. What is the wing made of? The wing consists of a high strength aluminum frame covered with a specially designed form of sail cloth. The aluminum alloy used in the frame is employed throughout the aviation industry due to it's extremely high strength and light weight. The sail is made using a combination of single and double layered Dacron cloth and film laminates for strength, directional stability and durability. Hardware is made of aviation grade aluminum and stainless steel. How much room is needed for take offs and landings? The Trike uses a very efficient wing giving a high degree of lift, needing an average of only 150 feet. How long can you fly on a tank of fuel? Depending on payload, throttle settings and atmospheric conditions, a tank of gas will give 4-6 hours of powered flight. What happens if the engine stops? The wing is designed to give excellent gliding performance and is not dependent upon engine power for control or stability. Directional steering is controlled by shifting your weight, so the pilot steers the same way with or without power. Because of the excellent gliding properties of the wing, a pilot flying at 1000 ft. AGL (above ground level) can shut down the engine and cover more than a mile before landing! Can I use the Trike on water or snow? Of course!! Our trikes are available with a variety of floats, boats and skis to make it truly a year round craft, no matter where you live! How much does it cost and how long does it take for delivery? Depending on the model, number of seats (one place or two place), accessories and wing type, costs range from around $9500 to $18000. Delivery usually takes 6-8 weeks from the time a deposit is made. |
